So you’re looking to set up multi-factor authentication (MFA)? Great choice — it’s one of the simplest and most effective ways to protect your financial data.
What is MFA?
MFA adds an extra layer of security to your account. Instead of just a password, you’ll confirm your sign-in with a unique code sent to your mobile phone. This ensures that even if someone discovers your password, they cannot access your account without your physical device.
How to set it up
- Go to Security Settings in the Rask app (you can open it directly from the sidebar via Security).
- In the Security posture section, confirm your status checks and complete any pending actions.
- Look for the Multi-factor authentication card.
- If not already enrolled, you will see a status of “MFA not enrolled”.
- Follow the prompts to enter your mobile phone number.
- You will receive a verification code via SMS. Enter this code into the app to complete the enrollment.
- Once finished, your status will update to MFA enrolled.
Managing your MFA
- Adding factors: Rask supports one active phone factor per account to prevent codes being sent to an outdated number.
- Removing factors: If you are a standard user, you can remove MFA factors yourself. However, if you are a staff member (Adviser or Admin), MFA may be required for privileged access and cannot be removed without setting up a replacement.
- Changing numbers: Use Replace phone number in Security Settings so your old number is removed and the new one is enrolled safely.
Tips for a smooth experience
- Keep your phone handy: You’ll need it every time you log in from a new device or after your session expires.
- Trusted devices: You won’t usually need to enter an MFA code every single time if you’re using the same browser and haven’t cleared your cookies.
Why this matters for access
Rask now protects sensitive areas (including Cashflow and Document vault) behind two checks:
- verified email
- MFA enabled
If one is missing, the app will show a security requirement screen and direct you back to Security Settings to complete setup.
