So you’re making an investment and want to remember why? Investment Notes allow you to record your thoughts, research, and decisions directly alongside your holdings.

Why keep notes?

Successful investing is as much about psychology as it is about numbers. Keeping notes helps you:

  • Stay Disciplined: Remember your original “thesis” when the market gets volatile.
  • Learn from Mistakes: Review your past logic to see where you were right (or wrong).
  • Collaborate: Share your research with your adviser so they understand your thinking.

How to add a note

  1. Go to your Portfolio dashboard.
  2. Select a specific holding.
  3. In Markets, use the Write note button above the note tabs.
  4. Use the 3-step note wizard:
    • Capture: write your note (with optional prompts).
    • Review: checks appear in the same writing sheet (no extra window).
    • Publish: keep private or publish a community snapshot.

Publishing to the community (Markets)

If you’re using the Markets research pages, you can publish an investment note to the community:

  • Publishing shares a snapshot of your note with other logged-in members.
  • If you edit your private note later, you can publish a new snapshot.
  • If there are no community notes yet, use Write a private note and publish to start the first discussion.
  • Notes are grouped in tabs: Community feed and Private notebook (you can switch anytime).
  • Publishing from the wizard does not ask for a second confirmation modal.

Adding images

You can add images (e.g. charts or screenshots) to provide context. Avoid uploading anything sensitive.

Your community handle (your public name)

When you publish a community snapshot, your note shows your community handle (your public name).

To update it:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. In the Profile tab, find Community handle.
  3. If you do not have one yet, type your handle and click Save handle.
  4. If you already have one, click Edit handle, update it, then Save.

Handle rules: 3-24 characters using letters, numbers, spaces, underscores, or hyphens.

Safety note: please avoid using personal information (emails, phone numbers, or links) in your handle.

What to include in a note

  • The “Why”: Why are you buying or selling this asset today?
  • The “Price”: What do you think is a fair value for this investment?
  • The “Risk”: What could go wrong with this investment?
  • The “Timeframe”: How long do you intend to hold this for?

Tips for better journaling

  • Be honest: Write for your future self, not for an audience.
  • Update regularly: Add a new note whenever your view on an investment changes.
  • Attach Evidence: If you’ve read a great research report, mention it in your note or upload it to your Document vault.
